In this spotlight, we chat with Longview, Texas hairstylist Felisha Dickenson! We’re so excited to share Felisha’s story and her work with you and talk all about her plans for joining us for Masterclass this weekend!
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF, FELISHA!
Hi! I’m Felisha, a 28 year old stylist located in Longview, Texas. I’m a dog, cat, and bunny mom. I love coffee and wine, and I’m always craving adventure. I’ve always described myself as an extrovert trapped in an introvert’s body. However, being in this industry has forced me out of my shell in the best way. I love starting my mornings in the gym and ending my busiest days snuggled up on the couch with my Frenchie watching whatever series my boyfriend and I are currently obsessed with!
WE WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT’S BROUGHT YOU TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW! TELL US ABOUT YOUR CAREER AS A HAIRSTYLIST — HOW YOU STARTED, ALL THAT FUN STUFF!
I’ve known I wanted to become a hairstylist since I was in the 5th grade. Of course, as I got older I went back and forth on other things, but doing hair was always in the back of my mind. After I graduated high school, I went and worked in an office for two years. I quickly realized sitting in front of a computer all day just wasn’t for me, so I finally built up the courage to register for classes starting in 2015.
Hands down the best decision I ever made! Becoming a hairstylist completely changed my life. It brought me out of my comfort zone in so many ways and has introduced me to opportunities I would have never thought possible. I have so many big goals in my career that I would have never dreamed to be achievable being “just a hairdresser.” Seeing so many boss babes do incredible things in this industry is so inspiring. We’re slowly changing the stigma, and I love getting to be a part of it!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER STYLISTS STARTING THEIR CAREERS?
Soak up as much education as you possibly can. It’s an amazing time for new stylists because you literally have so much free education at your fingertips. Take business and marketing classes as soon as you can, and just never stop learning!
CAN YOU TELL US WHY YOU CHOOSE TO USE HAND-TIED EXTENSIONS AND WHY YOU USE HARPER ELLIS HAIR?
I’m not going to lie: I never thought I’d end up doing extensions! I had no desire at all. I had never worn them before, not even clip-ins, and had always heard horror stories.
Suddenly, hand-tied extensions were being talked about all over Instagram. Everyone was raving about how much safer and more comfortable they were compared to most methods. I’ve always been big on having the best and safest option for my clients, so that sparked my interest. I had several clients ask about extensions, so I decided to just give it a shot!
Before I became certified, I came across Harper Ellis Hair Co. I instantly fell in love with everything about this company. I became certified and started using Harper Ellis hair right away. A year later, the Concealed Bead Method was released, and I signed up as soon as I could.
Though I’m not experienced in other methods or even other hair brands, I’ve done a LOT of research and talked with many other extensions experts, and nothing seems to compare to the quality of Harper Ellis hair. And the support we get from this company is unheard of! I couldn’t ask for a better team to work with.
TELL US YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE HOLIDAY SEASON!
Ah, the holidays! My absolute favorite time of year. I love everything about this season. The smells, the decorations, the pretty lights — there just seems to be so much joy in the air!
I have two favorite traditions:

Going to my mom’s on Christmas morning for our big family breakfast. Everyone always shows up in their crazy Christmas pj’s and it’s the best!

Making Nutella hot chocolate and doing Christmas movie nights with my loves!
