In this spotlight, we chat with Fayetteville hairstylist and owner of Crown Beauty Bar, Megan Harris! We’re so excited to share Megan’s truly inspiring story and her work with you, as well as her talk all plans for Spring 2022!

Tell Us About Yourself!

I’m born and raised in Arkansas, originally from Russellville, and moved to Fayetteville for college and never left!

I knew my entire life I wanted to do hair and started my career at 20! I’ve always been creative and was always the “hair girl” in high school doing makeup and up-dos for all the events! My husband’s aunt owned a shop I grew up around, and I knew since eighth grade that that’s the work environment I wanted. i wanted to work and grow with people who love to serve people.

I married my high school sweetheart, who I have a 5 year old son with!

Where my story is thrown a curve ball is at 28. I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. With no family history, after breastfeeding my son, something I never saw coming turned my life upside down.

Working as an employee at Crown at the time, it was my safe space and the only place I could be and feel normal. I continued to work through my 6 months of chemo. My bosses and coworkers were my biggest supporters.

Working in the beauty industry and being stripped of all the things that made me feel like a women, I totally changed my perspective on what I do and how beautiful it is that we give the gift of helping women love parts of themselves.

Losing my hair was devastating, and it was my biggest challenge hands down.

That’s why I love that what I do is helping and finding ways to help people see their beauty even more.  My cancer journey and career have now crossed paths, and I currently work with women growing their hair out from chemo or who are fighting hair loss from medications.

What advice would you give to other stylists starting their careers?

My biggest advice to stylists starting their careers is give it your all right out of school. Be open to assisting! Soak in ALL the education. You can start deciding what your specialty will be and own it!

Can you tell us why you choose to use hand-tied extensions and why you use Harper Ellis hair?

I choose to use hand-tied methods because i love the flexibility you have. It’s not a 3-6 month commitment before they are removed. You can take the hair out when you need!

I choose Harper Ellis, because I wanted to support an Arkansas-grown company. I love the customer service that’s available and the quality of the hair has been unmatched for me!

Tell us something you're excited about this spring!

This spring, I’m excited to celebrate owning Crown Beauty Bar for one year!! This space had been my home for 8.5 years. Going from stylist to owner has been life-changing. I never knew what all went into keeping this space going!

Can’t wait to see what the rest of 2022 brings!

Thank you so much, Megan! We are so inspired by your perseverance and constant growth! Be sure to follow along with Megan’s journey on Instagram and check out some of her incredible work below!
