In this spotlight, we chat with Texas-based Harper Ellis hairstylist, Lauren Pruitt. We're learning all about her career in styling as well as her experience with Harper Ellis hair!

Hi Lauren! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Lauren Pruitt, and I own Gem Studio in Lubbock, Texas.

I have been a hairstylist for four and a half years. I grew up in a small west Texas town and got my bachelors degree at Texas Tech University. After working in sales for two years after I graduated, I knew I wanted to be self-employed. I wanted something that was a skill or trade that I could take with me anywhere -- something that, if I knew how to market myself with, I would always have a career. I also wanted to make a positive change in people and bring others joy. That is what led me into looking into cosmetology school.

We would love to know what brought you to where you are now! What can you tell us about your career as a hairstylist?

When starting in this industry, one of my main goals was to help women get their dream hair. For me, having my dream hair was always a huge confidence booster, so I wanted to help provide that for others. In an amazing way, my business grew faster than I anticipated. Before long, it was time to expand and open a salon. Through this, I have also discovered what a blessing it is to help the stylists in my studio also build their dream careers.

Can you tell us why you choose to use hand-tied extensions and why you use Harper Ellis hair?

The original reason I chose to do hand-tied hair extensions was that I wanted to be one of the first in my area to learn this new technique and bring it back. It’s extremely important to me to always be on the cutting edge of new color and hair extensions techniques since we are in an ever evolving industry. Harper Ellis hair gives a very unique experience when purchasing. Hand-tied extensions are extremely customizable, and Harper Ellis helps create that. Most hair companies require you to purchase 4-6 wefts of the color you need, but Harper Ellis allows you purchase by the individual weft. Along with that, the quality of hair is incredible. Pairing Harper Ellis hair with their concealed beaded method has been a game changer for me and my business.

I am so excited to be a Harper Ellis Elite stylist and am so thankful for their guidance and support in an industry where you are typically left to figure it out on your own.
